Medicare CDBS
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government initiative designed to support families by offering financial assistance for essential dental services. If your child is eligible, they can access up to [MEDICARE CDBS] worth of basic dental services over two calendar years. The cap is indexed yearly, so be sure to check if your child qualifies for any increases.
Who Is Eligible for the CDBS?
To qualify for the CDBS, your child must meet the following criteria:
- Eligible for Medicare
- Aged between 0 and 17 years for at least one day of the calendar year
- You or your child must receive an eligible payment from Services Australia at least once during the calendar year
You don’t need to apply for CDBS, as Services Australia will notify you if your child qualifies.
What Dental Services Are Covered?
CDBS covers basic dental services, including:
- Check-ups
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Extractions
Before starting treatment, please consult with your dentist to confirm any restrictions on items or services.
What’s Not Covered?
CDBS does not cover certain treatments, including:
- Orthodontics (e.g., braces, Invisalign®)
- Cosmetic dentistry (e.g., teeth whitening)
- Hospital-based dental services
The 2-Year Period
Please note that the CDBS benefits can be used over a two-year period. If you use the full [MEDICARE CDBS] in the first year, no funds will be available for the second year. If the total amount isn’t used in the first year, the remaining balance can be applied during the second year as long as your child remains eligible. Remember that any unused funds after the two-year window will expire, and a new period will begin only when your child becomes eligible again.
